New Site Launch

April 25th, 2006

I’ve been very busy in the online publishing game recently. I haven’t had much of a chance to let you know what’s going on. More details can be found here.

I’ve had a pretty successful launch of a new site. I launched on Friday and I’m already averaging about $4 per day in Adsense revenue and a few affiliate sales through Clickbank. After a few promotional offers have run their course service fees for the site should bring in about $15 per day, making a total revenue of a little over $600 per month.

I’ve added a new revenue generating service on another site that I expect to bring in about $10 per day, making that site produce about $400 per month. The neat thing about this one is that I’m building content for a future membership site, and my customers are paying me to do it!

I’ve revived an old site that had died, and I’ve brought revenue back up to about $200 per month. Hoepfully I can bump that up a bit.

In the next month I’ll have another site up that should generate another $400 per month.

I’m back in the game. This last weeks worth of work should result in a recurring $1,200 per month. Next weeks should add $400 to that. And in the next few months I’ll add another $600. So my (somewhat) passive income will be back over $2,000 per month.

Now back to work on my “active” income. :)

John T. Reed

April 3rd, 2006

It’s about to storm hard at my home in Virginia. I made it back to the house just in time. So I have to make this quick.

If you have never heard of John T. Reed, then you have a lot of reading to do over the next few hours. I recently bought one of John’s books, and it is phenomenal. He is my type of guy. I spent the last few days reading EVERY article in his website. I’ve learned more about real-estate investing in the last few days than I had in the last few years. And I’ve even made a few real-estate deals.

If you are into real estate investing, self-publishing, or baseball and football coaching, then check out his site:

johntreed.com

The man is no BS artist. Read his articles and you’ll understand what I mean.

BTW, I do not see a penny for anything you may buy from him. This is no associate link. Just my opinion.

It just went from sunshine and fluffy clouds to PITCH BLACK and windy as hell. So that’s all today.

What happens when you stop paying attention?

February 26th, 2006

Wow! I’ve been missing for quite a while. But I told you that I would be inactive for a long time. So what have I been doing and what has happened to my online empire?

So we’re putting together our research company — hunting down funding, gathering equipment, etc. I’ve also been doing some consulting work for a company that makes LED’s for televisions and computer monitors. It’s pretty good work. I don’t get to sit around in my bath robe like I used to, but I’m enjoying what I’m doing a little more.

It’s really been pretty exciting. If you think convincing people to hand over $100 or so is difficult, try schmoozing someone out of several hundred thousand sometime. And my consulting gig managed to salvage over $2 million dollars worth of defective devices for the company I was working with.

I’ve also made it through the crazy exam period in my doctoral studies. So I am a dissertation away from being a Doctor of Philosophy.

That is why my online empire has received ZERO attention for the last few months. What has happened to it?

Unfortunately, just about everything I’ve been doing online has fallen into the black hole of the internet. It’s an important lesson.

There are idiots out there who will tell you that you can simply set-up sites and dissappear and those site will continue to generate revenue. BULLSHIT!

You have to continually work to make money online.

I have several Adsense sites that are static and do not change. They just draw traffic from the search engines and make revenue via Google Adsense. Some are still making money, but about 1/10th of what they brought in when I was paying attention.

Why?

You have to monitor what is working and what isn’t. And on the internet, those things change daily.

Of course, I ended my Ebay company. I was bringing in over $10,000 a month in sales. I was moving about 200 musical instruments a month. And I was also having to deal with about 10 different issues a day. On Ebay, if you sell a few things part-time, then it’s no big deal. But if you want to make a full-time living on Ebay, then you have to WORK FULL TIME.

I know that’s not what you read in those stupid ebooks, but it is the truth. I couldn’t manage my business myself anymore. It got too big. That’s no big problem, though. I had planned on shutting it down anyway. (Why do you think I was selling my secrets in the Powerseller Course :P )

And then one of my other online ventures hit a major snag. This one earned about $500-$800 a month. No big money, but no big time. But one repeat cutomer ended me by filling over 60 complaints with Paypal at the same time. And all of the items were sent to third parties (as they were supposed to), not my customer. So the bastard won every one of them. I lost the sales price and the items. So I lost double. And my Paypal account for that venture was limited.

And then this site. I used to earn about 10,000 visitors a month with a new subscriber a day. I have a pretty large list, but since I stopped writing, it has grown to almost ZERO.

So what is the moral of the story? If you want to make money, you have to earn it. You have to work for it. There is no hands-free, no worry, zero time commitment business in existence.

I knew what was going to happen when I put everything on hold for an idea. I want you to know that you can’t be idle and expect money to keep rolling in.

Putting it all on the line for an idea.

November 29th, 2005

As I mentioned the other day, I’m working on something pretty big right now that is taking all of my time. And by big I mean VERY big. I’m devoting (almost) all of my time to an idea. And by this time next year, I’ll either be a very rich man, or I’ll just be another year older.

I have learned through my experience as an online entrepenure that you have to risk your time (and sometimes your money) to pursue an idea. Sometimes that idea is a good one and you make money. Other times that idea is a dud. Usually you don’t know which it will be until you step up to the table, throw in your ante, and read your cards.

Over the last year I’ve had about 20 ideas to bring in revenue. I’ve put about 10 into action, and have had great success with 2. A 10% success ratio may not seem very good, but those 2 ideas put a good chunk of change in my pocket.

You have to have ideas, and you have to try them out.

What is my new idea? I’m a physicist by training, and have been working on a Ph.D. in chemical physics for over a year now. I’ve been able to do this because of E-Bay and internet marketing. Anyway, my research combined with that of a collegue has led me to an interesting idea about hydrogen storage.

Basically, I have come up with a novel system for storing hydrogen safely and at low cost. It invloves nano-technology and surface chemistry. I can’t tell you any more because we have yet to obtain patents, and it is very technical. But my collegue and I are forming a company to research and develop this techology.

Right now, we are in the process of forming the corporation (Fuel Sponge Technologies, Inc.) and doing preliminary theoretical calculations for our system. If those calculations show that our system has promise, we will begin raising money for further research via grants and sales of stock.

Our goal is to raise about $500,000 for the first year, which should allow us to develop and build a working prototype within that time. At that point, we will probably begin forming partnerships with other companies developing hydrogen energy products and/or aquiring other hydrogen technologies. Or we’ll position ourselves to be aquired by a larger company and take the fat pay-day.

Or the technology won’t work and we’ll move on.

Either way, we tried.

I’m pretty excited about this project. And I’m sure that if I can get the science to work, then I’m looking at one big ass success.

Unfortunately, all of this has very little to do with internet marketing. Do not fret, though. I’m still working on a product for physics students that I will launch soon. I’ll keep you updated about the launch process and my results. I’ll also keep you up to date on what is going on with Fuel Sponge Technologies, Inc. Sort of a primer on technology start-us for those that are interested.

Where Have I Been?

November 20th, 2005

I’ve been missing for a while. Sorry about that.

Here’s what has been up with me: if you haven’t noticed, I have pretty much suspended all of my non-passive online activities due to time constraints.

So what have I been doing?

I am in the middle of putting together an offline venture. A partner and I are in the process of founding a technology company based off of our research. I can’t give you too many details, but the purpose of the comapny will be to develop an idea we have about hydrogen storage.

Also, another partner and I are putting the pieces together for another company that will develop, produce and market educational products for science and technology. I’ve written about this before. It’s coming together.

So that is where I have been.

What do you want to know?

November 8th, 2005

I’m feeling very generous after the successful completion of my E-Bay course. I’m going to spend the next week answering your questions about making money online and building a business.

Now, I’m a small guy in the Internet Marketing scene. I’ve never made 6 figures in 7 days, or over $1 million in a single day. But that may be a bonus. I can show you the small guy, in the trenches, back against the wall style marketing.

I took a tiny list of less than 100 and converted it into $1,576 in 3 days. I have several tiny websites that bring in about $50-$100 a month. Not much, but it adds up. I consistently sell over $8,000 per month worth of merchandise on E-Bay. Clickbank sends me a check (a small one) each month and so does Google.

That’s nothing if you stand me up next to Yanik Silver, Jeff Walker, Jim Edwards, etc. These guys are giants.

I’m still catching up with people like Jason Cain, Michelle Stahl, Kidino, and some of the other marketers I blog about frequently. They don’t have million dollar days, but they feed their children marketing online.

I want to share my knowledge.

In the comments below, or via email, let me know what you want me to write about. What are you struggling with? Where are you in the process of getting your business going? What roadblocks keep you from succeeding.

In return for your questions, I promise to answer them to the best of my ability without pimping some product. No affiliate links, no sales letter BS.

Give ‘em to me.

Win a FREE course!

November 3rd, 2005

UPDATE 2: Even though the Hokies lost, I still have 2 copies of the course left on my desk. My wife said they had to go, so Joyce and Linda G send me an email at chris(at)keyliberty.com with your mailing address and I’ll get a copy in your mailbox.

UPDATE: I’m pretty upset right now. I’ve never seen the Hokies play so horribly. Miami played a terrific game — their best this year. Unfortunately, Tech played their worst game of the year.

Anyway, I’ve decided to still give away a free course to one of the entrants. You have until I announce a winner to get an entry in. And if you get the course by the morning then you can still get the $50 rebate.

The course will be pulled from the market by tomorrow. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be crying in my beer.

Give people a deadline, and they ACT!

The response to the news that I’m yanking the Musical Instrument E-Bay Powerseller course from the market has been phenomenal. I have only 6 copies left.

I’ve decided to give away a free copy of the course, but there is a small catch.

As you know I’m a big fan of Virginia Tech football, and Saturday night is a HUGE game. So I want to get as many people as I can to root for the Hokies. So here’s what I’m going to do:

Post a comment to this blog post stating why you need the course and what you will do with it. I will pick a winner from the comments and send them a free copy of the course. If you have already purchased the course by that time and you win, then I will refund your money.

Here’s the catch: I’ll only give away a free copy IF Virginia Tech wins. So you better root hard!

To make sure you get a copy, you may want to go ahead and order. If you win I’ll just give you your money back and send you the course:

Your opportunity to be an E-Bay Powerseller is about to pass

November 3rd, 2005

I’m yanking the Musical Instrument E-Bay Powerseller course from the market on Saturday evening (or after I sell the last 8 copies).

This is your last opportunity to get the course.

I also have a special deal for my newsletter subscribers: the opportunity to get $50 off. Sign-up for the newsletter with the form above and find out how to get the course for only $147.00.

This is it.

Product Launch Formula

November 2nd, 2005

UPS just dropped off Jeff Walker’s Product Launch Formula. As I’ve mentioned before Yanik Silver picked me to win a copy of this course.

I just finished watching the DVD, and there is some really good stuff in this course so far. I still have hours of audio and video to go through, but I assure you, if you watch me close enough, you’ll see the principles outlined in this course put into practive VERY soon.

Busy Time for IM

November 2nd, 2005

The internet marketing blogs that I (try to) keep up with have been ablaze, ahumming, achurning along these last few days. Check out some of them via my blog roll to the right. With very little coming from the likes of Michelle Stahl, Kindio, Jason Cain and others a few weeks ago, I’ve had little to read. Well all of these folks are now on fire. They must know something about the quickly-approaching holiday season that I don’t.

Anyway, I’ve been a little behind on the blog and newsletter for the past week, but I have good excuses.

Two things: I’ve been slammed with my school work, and I’ve been slammed with projects-in-process.

I’ve scaled back my E-Bay business because I’ve lacked the time to concentrate on good customer service with everything going on. (I’ll pick it back up come mid-November.) And unfortunately, my timetable for my upcoming two big products keeps getting extended due to other obligations.

After this week, I’m done with the big exams for a while. So hopefully I’ll get back into full swing and make some money! I just bought my wife a new car on Monday, so I’ll have to get off my ass and get these projects going so that I can pay for it :)
