My Letter to Matt Furey
I’ve mentioned before that I’ve been following Matt Furey’s Combat Conditioning and Combat Abs program for a little over a month now. Here’s the letter I recently sent to Matt Furey:
Hey Matt,
I used to be a champion swimmer when I was in high school and I coached junior national and senior national swimmers all through college. I weighed 160 lbs. with 4% body fat from a combination of light weight training and swimming over 4 miles a day.
In graduate school I bulked up big time with weight training — 190 lbs. with about 10-12% body fat! But the schedule I had to keep to maintain those big muscle gains was un-doable. You know what happens to 190 lbs. of muscle when you stop pumping the iron: it quickly turned into 220 lbs. of FAT.
I was a balloon, and each day I missed a trip to the gym was another puff of air swelling my size.
Thank God I found Combat Conditioning. I still have a busy schedule, so finding time to go to the gym is near impossible (at least 2 hours when considering I have to change and drive to the gym and park and everything else). With Combat Conditioning and Combat Abs I spend 15-30 minutes in the morning before I take a shower and about 15 minutes in the evening while watching the news before I go to bed.
I’ve dropped to 185 lbs. in a little over 1 month. I feel better. I look better. Who knew that eating better and getting some exercise could work

My new goal: qualifying for the U.S. Masters Swimming Nationals for my age group. It will take at least a year, but I will do it.
